Cannabis sativa. Four independent Bronze/Iron Age burial sites across Central Asia — Yanghai, Jirzankal, Pazyryk, Jiayi — treated this plant as sacred enough to bury with the dead, centuries before anyone had a word for an endocannabinoid receptor. The mechanism behind that reverence: your own nervous system already produces cannabinoid-like molecules (anandamide, 2-AG) that bind CB1/CB2 receptors — the plant found a door the body had already built. THC is one compound of over 100 phytocannabinoids; CBD, CBG and terpenes modulate its effect, the basis of the "entourage effect."

What herb reduces inflammation?

The standard answer is a listicle of "anti-inflammatory foods" with no mechanism. Chronic inflammation actually runs on two enzyme pathways — COX-2 and 5-LOX — both converting arachidonic acid into the prostaglandins and leukotrienes that keep tissue inflamed. Block only COX-2, and substrate often shunts down the 5-LOX pathway instead. Boswellia serrata inhibits 5-LOX directly via its boswellic acids — the pathway most interventions miss. Turmeric's curcumin blocks COX-2 and NF-kB. Paired, they close both ends of the same inflammatory cascade.
